Lyrics

I Miss Dan Fogelberg
© Drexel Rayford, BMI 2020

Some people miss Jimmy;
Some people miss John;
Some miss the “Prince,”
Some, “The King.”
Now that I’m older and feeling much bolder,
I’ll tell you what I really think.
His songs had heart, his lyrics were smart,
And drew me a scene I could see.
He told me a story where I could belong,
And sung in that tight harmony!

His mountains were always my mountains.
His pine trees were always my firs.
And his poetry sang while his harmony rang,
Among the best I ever heard.
These days, I miss Dan Fogelberg.

From Old Tennessee it was Part of the Plan,
To relish a bright Morning Sky.
And the Power of Gold in the Innocent Age
Remembered the Love Gone By.
There’s a Place in the World for a Gambler, it’s true.
The Long Way yields great Souvenirs.
And Run for the Roses in a Scarecrow’s Dream.
With the Netherlands sound drawing near!

Some people miss Janice,
Some folks miss Leonard,
And some miss Miss Holiday’s thing.
Now that I’m older, the music feels colder,
Even embellished by strings.
I had quit listening when he used saxophones
To go for the popular sound.
But my heart was broken as the news came to me
That cancer had taken him down.

‘Cause his mountains were always my mountains;
His pine trees were always my firs.
And his poetry sang while his harmony rang
Among the best I ever heard.
These days I miss Dan Fogelberg.
I miss Dan Fogelberg.
I miss Dan Fogelberg.
