Back on the Slide Again
©Drexel Rayford, Vagrants Chapel Music, BMI, 2004
I’m sitting here thinking, will it all work out right?
It’s sadly perplexing how that question won’t die.
Despite my best efforts I have one more failed try.
I’m back on the slide again.
I feel like some useless, lackadaisical dude;
Who follows impulses contrived out of the blue.
Sometimes lackluster, sometimes without a clue;
When I’m back on the slide again.
Lord up above you know my desire is sincere.
This longing for Spirit is a need I hold dear.
But just when I feel like a new way is drawing near;
A shadow falls on me and my soul feels a chill;.
From this sinister voice in my ear.
I’ve come to admitting this complete mystery –
These characteristics from the dark side of me;
That always derail me and twist reality.
Push me back on the slide again.
It seems all I offer are the same old, tired lines;
Conventional phrases that I need to refine.
A long list of failures forces me to define
How deep down inside me I long for a change
That staid platitudes can’t confine.
I’m sick of this useless, lackadaisical dude;
Tired of impulses contrived out of the blue.
Oh, Lord, won’t you hear me and give me one helpful clue?
‘Cause I’m back on the slide again.
I’m back on the slide again.
Back on the slide – back on the slide – I’m back on the slide again.
