Only You: A Prayer of the Eight

God I come to you in secret
And open up my heart ‘cause there’s
This anger that keeps brewing;
I always seems to start
When I see a stark injustice
That conflicts with my desires
And I feel such strength and power
When my anger fires
But then I find I’m in a fortress all alone
Where I fear my heart might turn to stone
Well, tears don’t get the job done,
Though there’s a flood of them inside.
I need “the milk of human kindness,”
But my strength’s my pride,
I can see a bigger picture
Because I have heroic sight,
And I fear that if I’m tender, I’ll lose this fight.
Now my ruthlessness has left me alone.
I fear my heart could turn to stone.
Only you can hear my heart cry,
Only you can feel my pain,
Only you can wield the power to be free again.
And when I find the blessed connection to
The compassionate and True,
The Power that I’m living
Is only you.
In this world of such injustice
That conflicts with my desire
I’ll know the strength and power
When I feel your holy fire
Transform my rage into compassion,
That can heal another’s pain.
Through the strength that grows from weakness
Through loss there is gain.
I know I’ve never been alone
In Your strength I have a Living Stone!
Only you can hear my heart cry,
Only you can feel my pain,
Only you can wield the power to be free again.
And when I find the blessed connection to
The compassionate and True,
The Power that I’m living
Is only you.
